day 26

Today is my last Sunday in Have so I spent it with the kids and meeting some of the villagers I had become friends with, but I also had time to walk and be in my own thoughts.

Next week, I'll be teaching until Wednesday, and then I'll leave the school. This means that my classroom will have no longer have a teacher, at least until another volunteer comes or they find the money to hire one. Even having a different volunteer every month or so to teach them is not the ideal way to help them to learn. A new teaching method each time is a step back.

In the school here in Have, there are five classrooms and three full-time teachers. I have been teaching the third class, while the fifth one right now is teacherless, except for me spending some time with them to give them some exercises to do.

Today the kids asked me: "Why do you have to leave? Why do the volunteers always leave? Why can't you stay?”

I was really sad. They see many people coming and going here. I have to say goodbye just once, but they do it every month.

I really hope that, maybe with some help, it would be soon possible for the school to hire at least another teacher, otherwise I don't know what kind of education will be in store for them: maybe the kids will be forced to teach themselves.
